Brabant is a pioneer in the field of big data. Data science is developing rapidly at a number of locations, including the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science in 's-Hertogenbosch.
When you visit a web page, cookies register what you view and for how long. Before you know it, an advertisement, which been designed just for you, pops up on your screen. Our public behaviour online is recorded in databases. The new economy runs on data. All kinds of applications are conceivable. For example, a car rental company can accurately record its customers’ behaviour on the road. And the software used in machines can be improved via a smart feedback loop based on the large amounts of operational data generated by the machines themselves. Brabant is proud of its status as a pioneer in the field of big data. Businesses in Brabant are exploiting the vast potential of this fast-growing knowledge sector.
Data registration is one way of preventing violence. Eindhoven University of Technology has developed a new camera system in collaboration with Philips. As soon as the camera recognises movement patterns that indicate violence, it starts to photograph the perpetrators. That is an effective deterrent!
Businesses, knowledge institutes and regional governments in Brabant have formed an alliance to give the data-driven economy a major boost. The first university course in Data Science in the Netherlands, the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) in 's-Hertogenbosch, opened its doors with justifiable pride in 2016. It is the result of a close partnership between Eindhoven University of Technology, Tilburg University, the municipality of ’s-Hertogenbosch, the provincial authority of North Brabant and the international business community in Brabant and further afield.
Initiatives like this make Brabant a fertile breeding ground for young technology companies with refreshingly innovative ideas. Like BitSensor in Eindhoven. In cases where traditional security companies with a solid reputation fail to protect company information and consumer data adequately, BitSensor intercepts and blocks computer hackers in record time. This very young company has already won several awards. The innovative companies and knowledge institutes that are active in this sector in the region have put Brabant on the map internationally.
Telecom company CM.com encourages its staff to think like entrepreneurs. There are no managers: ‘The members of our team do what they are good at. New ideas? Let’s hear them!’
